I commenced my investigations into the family tree out of curiosity and soon decided that I wished to record the details as a keep sake for my 2 children Jessica and Andrew. It was also something I wished to do in memory of my own father, Lindsay, who passed away at too early an age in 1980. The TOMKINS name is not common and particularly in Australia so I thought it would be interesting to identify all of the family members as I didn't believe that there would be too many. Well that was the idea anyway... what I have unearthed is way beyond what I had expected but even now I am still looking even further. My family past interested me because of the stories I had heard through my father's parents of the scottish decendants who had come to Australia by way of British Guiana (what was then New Hebridis) and is now known as West Indies. This arouded an interest to iscover the true story and to better understand my roots. Thus began a journey...
